The meeting with the stakeholders and the KnowRiskFlood communication campaign!
On 23 and 24 March 2022 SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 is in Metaponto and Bernalda (Matera, Italy) for the third event of the KnowRiskFlood campaign for schools and to meet local stakeholders. The events are organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and ISOTECH of Cyprus, with the support of the partners of the Center for Integrated Geomorphology for the Mediterranean Area (CGIAM) and the Basilicata Environment Research Foundation (FARBAS).
On 25 March there will also be a workshop organized by the University of Basilicata, the Order of Geologists of Basilicata, the Order of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors of the Province of Matera and SAVEMEDCOASTS-2. The event, entitled "Adaptation to Climate Change of Lucanian Ionian Agricultural and Coastal Areas", will take place at the Magna Grecia Hotel Village in Metaponto Lido, where local stakeholders will also be present from academia, research, associations and the agricultural sector.
The goal of the Bernalda and Metaponto meetings is to transfer the latest scientific knowledge on the causes and effects of sea level rise to coastal communities. In fact, it is important to increase the awareness of the population towards the phenomenon and its consequences, identifying the needs for intervention and specific needs to develop applicable solutions.
The implementation of a participatory decision support method, based on the study of perception, aims to support decision managers in particular in the development of specific solutions for the mitigation of sea level rise through adaptation policies.
The KnowRiskFlood campaign is a scientific dissemination event organized by SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 aimed at middle school students and teachers of the Istituto Comprensivo Pitagora di Bernalda and Metaponto. Interactive seminars and educational games are conducted by a group of INGV experts in order to stimulate discussions and reflections on the phenomenon, its causes, effects and future projections. What is happening on the coast of Metaponto? What can be done to mitigate the effects of rising sea levels? SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 will answer these questions, listening to the points of view of the students of Bernalda and Metaponto who experience the consequences of the phenomenon on a daily basis.
